Writing Instruction That Adapts to the Student

I work with students to build their skills as writers, readers, thinkers, and communicators. Some need help with grammar foundations. Others are navigating admissions essays or ongoing school assignments. Still others are ready for creative or analytical challenges. I have deep knowledge of Bay Area independent schools and a strong track record supporting students through transitions—whether it’s preparing for the next grade level or applying to competitive schools.

Below are options to schedule sessions or set up a phone consultation. Alternatively, you can send an email through the Contact Page.

  • In Person Tutoring Session:($225.00) Personalized one-on-one instruction tailored to each student's goals, including essay writing, literary analysis, grammar, high school and college applications, reading comprehension, and creative writing.

I strongly prefer to work with students in person whenever possible and primarily meet students at the Girlmath Tutoring offices on Union Street or at my home office in Noe Valley. Zoom sessions are also available and can be a helpful option for students with busy schedules. In my experience, students benefit most when we establish a strong in-person working relationship and use Zoom as needed for flexibility.

  • In Home Tutoring Session:($275.00) Personalized one-on-one instruction in the student's home. Sessions are tailored to each student's goals, including essay writing, literary analysis, grammar, high school and college applications, reading comprehension, and creative writing.

The in-home rate reflects the additional travel time required to serve students at multiple locations throughout the city while maintaining a consistent schedule for all families.

  • Phone Consultation: Schedule a 15 minute phone consultation to have questions answered, discuss individual needs of students, or clarify session protocols.

Summer Workshops for High School Admissions Essays: This weeklong, in-person workshop helps students discover what makes them unique and develop the stories, reflections, and writing they'll need for the high school admissions process. Through guided brainstorming, discussion, free writing, and feedback, students will create a personalized portfolio—a digital collection of stories, reflections, outlines, and draft responses that can be adapted for multiple Bay Area independent school and boarding school applications throughout the fall.

Students will:
• Explore common admissions essay and short-answer prompts
• Identify meaningful experiences, interests, values, and personal stories
• Practice narrative and reflective writing techniques
• Read and discuss successful application essays and responses
• Develop outlines and draft responses for common application questions
